I did call digi and suggest that they put that question in their troubleshooting list. Please note: Pro Tools SYNC HD has been discontinued (end of support date on ) and replaced by Pro Tools Sync X. Found one of those (not so easy) and it worked flawlessly, and has ever since except for a hiccup in PT8 (pilot error).
Turns out I needed a "mac" serial cable 8 pin mini din. Sync HD, AJA IO XT, Avid Dock, Avid S1, PT Control, Soundflow, PT. called Digi, and the tech, after a while, said "what kind of serial cable are you using?" to which I replied "Planet Waves". Did that, paid the minimum repair/replace cost (somewhere around 300.00) they tested, said it was fine and sent it back.
